Expertise

Gemological analysis services

Our laboratory is the first independent laboratory in Quebec dedicated to the in-depth study of gems.
The IGEM laboratory delivers accurate gemological identification reports, indispensable for determining the market value or selling a diamond or colored stone. We analyze cut or set diamonds, evaluating the 4Cs (Carat, Color, Clarity, Cut) according to international standards, including for mixed stones. We also identify synthetic or treated gems, using state-of-the-art equipment.

Our expertise also covers colored gemstones (ruby, sapphire, emerald, spinel, tourmaline…), with particular attention paid to their quality, naturalness and possible treatments.

The result: a complete, reliable and recognized report, essential for the appraisal or resale of a gemstone.

Stone identification

determine the exact nature of each gem – natural, treated or synthetic – using scientific techniques.

In-depth analysis

characterization of treatments (heating, diffusion, oiling), and optical/geochemical balances.

High-precision diagnostics

batch sorting of stones, analysis of diamonds, fine gems such as tourmaline, emerald, sapphire and ruby.

Reports

Laboratory reports and tariffs

A laboratory report is a gem’s best friend, authenticating its quality. It is a business driver, enhancing trust between the various players involved in the industry. The information it contains is recognized by all professionals and easily accessible to their customers.

The iGEM Laboratory offers a variety of reports for all your un-set gems. Both diamonds and colored gems can be analyzed by our team to produce a report.

Our equipment enables us to classify a large number of colorless melee diamonds (<0.25 ct), identifying potential intruders such as synthetic or treated diamonds and natural or synthetic imitation gems. These will be identified and segregated. They will not be included in the final grading report.

Rapport de classification de mêlée (minimum de 100 diamants)
Prix en $ CAD avant taxes0.50 $ par diamant

The scrum classification report will include the following information:

  • Natural diamond (D – Z color)
  • Diamond shape and cut
  • Diameter
  • Number of diamonds and total weight

You can add purity color classification options at extra cost: please contact us for any requests to add classification criteria.

You can have your rough diamonds examined by our gemologists to estimate their quality and cutting potential. You will receive a rough diamond grading report.

Prix des rapports de classification du diamant brut en fonction du poids en carats du diamant

This report indicates the characteristics of the rough diamond:

  • Weight
  • Shape
  • Chemical type
  • Fluorescence
  • Presence of voltage

On the other hand, it will give you a size estimate by describing the characteristics of the future cut diamond(s) it will be possible to obtain: estimated weight and dimensions of future cut diamonds (yield), color range, clarity range.

The classification of rough diamonds is subject to certain conditions concerning the origin of diamonds in relation to the Kimberley process and diamond traceability.

Two different price scales will be applied depending on the nature of the gem.
