iGEM: the synergy of 3 centres of excellence
to identify and evaluate gems and jewellery
WHY HAVE YOUR GEMS AND JEWELLERY APPRAISED AT THE CENTER ?
Having your jewellery appraised at the Center: multiple advantages
Each appraisal is carried out in the presence of two gemmologists. Each one brings a different experience of the market, and a different approach, which allows us to arrive at the most accurate final appraisal possible.
Our scientific director has a doctorate in History, Art History and Archaeology, and is a specialist in the history of jewellery. Her expertise in the field for the last 30 years allows us to offer our clients the most reliable appraisal of their antique jewellery.
Direct access to the laboratory allows us to analyze the gems quickly, and to benefit from the expertise of gemmologists who are experts in laboratory analysis.
In order to proceed in the most accurate way, we evaluate in writing the jewels having a certain value, whether it is in the form of an inventory or a unitary certificate. If we feel that the value of certain jewels does not justify the production of a certificate, we indicate this to the client and provide them with a verbal appraisal. If the client so chooses, we will provide a written appraisal.
Some of our gemmologists also have degrees in geology: evaluating a stone in its raw form to reveal its full potential is also part of the services provided by the Appraisal Centre.
The iGEM Appraisal Centre's mission is to help you in your efforts to have your jewellery, stones and watches evaluated
Other than appraisal for insurance purposes, it is often following a painful situation in life such as a death, a divorce, or a financial unforeseen event that a person wishes to have a gem or a jewel appraised. The Centre was born out of a desire to provide the best possible support to people wishing to know the value of their gems or jewellery.
Our experts evaluate your pieces objectively, independently and confidentially, according to their actual quality and current market conditions.
Even if you have already had a stone or a piece of jewellery appraised, a second independent opinion will allow you to confirm or invalidate your first evaluation.
If your gem or jewel is insured, an appraisal will also allow you to adjust your insurance costs to the actual market value of your property.
In addition, wear and tear or damage to a piece of jewellery can change its value.
We will help you to know the potential of your jewellery.Over the years, and even over the different lives a person may have, it is not uncommon to have rings, bracelets or pendants sitting in a drawer, without thinking about their value, or how we can give them a second life. It is interesting to know that your jewellery has the possibility of being updated to your taste or sold at the best price to help you in your projects!

Whether you decide to transform a piece of jewellery to pass on this heritage for an engagement, a wedding, or as a unique gift, we are at your side to advise you. From the conception to the realization, we guide you to guarantee you a unique object. Once the transformation is finished, we will deliver you an appraisal report of your jewel with all its particularities, the materials used and its objective characteristics.
Thanks to the synergy offered by iGEM, the presence of the laboratory allows us to obtain identification certificates quickly if we judge that they can bring an added value to your property. For more information on the different identification certificates offered by the laboratory, please consult the tab dedicated to it.
The different types of appraisal
An appraisal will meet different needs or objectives. For that, various formulas are proposed.
It should also be noted that an appraisal can be done on the whole jewel, or on a part only, such as one (or several) gem(s).

Three appraisal formats are possible:
- A verbal opinion for a gem and jewellery whose appraisal is quick and obvious
- An appraisal in the form of an inventory when there are several jewels
- An appraisal certificate for each piece of jewellery when we want to use this certificate for insurance purposes or when reselling the jewellery
Two types of appraisal:
- An appraisal at the second hand price: this allows the professional or the private individual to know the price of the jewel on the market, taking into account the rate of wear of the metal as well as the gems. The value given allows it to be more efficient if you want to resell your jewel, but also it allows you to base yourself on a factual element in the framework of property sharing (separation or inheritance for example).
- An appraisal for new replacement: this price corresponds to what would be paid if the jewel or gem was lost or stolen.
