GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Diamonds module is devoted exclusively to the world of diamonds. From its extraction to its setting in jewellery, all the essential notions and knowledge surrounding the top gemstone. It will cover geology, physical, optical and chemical properties, prospecting and extraction, the cause of colour, cutting, treatments, gradation, imitations, etc…

This course will also be supplemented by various scientific articles, rich in the most recent discoveries on the subject.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The topics covered are:

– Diamond mineralogy: crystallography, physical, optical and chemical properties
– Coloured diamonds
– Geology and mining industry
– Cutting evolution and lapidary
– International grading systems
– Identification of imitations and confusions

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE?

This module is aimed at both the curious who wish to learn more about the world of gems and at students who wish to become professional gemmologists.

Prerequisites: 
– If students enroll in the Diamonds course as part of the WGF Career Gemmologist training, it is necessary to have taken all the theoretical courses of the diploma beforehand.
– If students enroll in the Diamonds course as part of the WGF Diamond Professional, no prerequisites are required.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The principle of the distance learning course is to allow students to organize their studies in relation to their family or professional obligations. To do this, the institute proposes the following organization:

– Each student follows the course at his/her own pace.

– You have access to the digital version of the course for an unlimited period of time, and can receive the printed version if you wish (two options are offered at the time of registration: with or without printed material).

– Each student benefits from a 2-hour individual tutorial given by one of the professors, which can be done in the institute’s premises or via a web platform, in one or several sessions.

– 1 online MCQ exam allows you to validate this module.

VALIDATION AND FOLLOW-UP

If you complete the online exam successfully, you will receive a letter of completion for your Diamonds module.

You can continue your learning with the WGF Diamond Grading and Lab-created Diamonds workshop.

Diamonds is part of the training for the WGF Career Gemmologist and WGF Diamond Professional diplomas.

REFUND IN CASE OF CANCELLATION

Distance learning: as the course is accessible for an unlimited period of time, it cannot be refunded. Similarly, the material acquired by the student (printed material, gem kit, instruments or books) cannot be taken back.

Attestation

A score of more than 70% in the online exam of 75 questions entitles you to a certificate. This allows you to follow the other modules leading to the WGF Career Gemmologist or WGF Diamond Professional diplomas.
