IGEM Diamond Expert Diploma

This intensive, professional diploma trains you in in all the technical, practical and commercial aspects of diamonds – from geological formation to market valuation.

• Understanding diamond mineralogy: crystallography, physical, optical and chemical properties
• Getting to know colored diamonds
• Understanding the evolution of pruning and lapidary
• Understanding international grading systems
• Identifying colorless confusion gems
• Identifying natural and synthetic diamonds
• Estimating the potential of a rough diamond
• Valuing rough diamonds

This course is ideal for anyone wishing to work in the diamond trade, specialized sales, import-export or jewelry houses.

No prerequisitesbut an introduction to instruments is recommended via the “Gemmological Instruments” workshop.

The diploma consists of three complementary modules:

• Diamond (theoretical course – 6 days)
• Diamond grading & identification (practical workshop – 8 days)
• Rough diamond grading & valuation (course and practical workshop – 6 days)

• Hands-on workshops in Montrealwith access to the IGEM laboratory
• Final exam 5 test questions + 4 diamonds to grade + 4 rough diamonds to classify and value
• Two diplomas awarded “IGEM Diamond & Diamond Expert” after validation of the 3 modules and exams (≥ 70%, ≥ 75% for rough diamonds)
